Dear Camp Families, We are watching the weather too. We promise! We are: * setting up extra water stations around camp, * remaining diligent about sunscreen and hydration, * reviewing signs and symptoms of heat-related illnesses * reminding counselors to seek shade and passive activities, * AND - all of our campers get in the pool at least twice a day. Camp Friends & Families, Thank you for your concern over the bacteria in the Delaware Bay and for forwarding us the articles. We want to let you know we are watching this and our Nurse is familiar with the symptoms. As precautions - we will not be eating any seafood from the Rehoboth Bay this summer AND we are using antibacterial soap at our waterfront rinse station upon exiting the bay. We have grad students from Delaware State that are regularly checking our water quality for their research, and they have told us our section of the bay is one of the cleanest. We are also in relationship and conversation with the DNREC and the Center for Inland Bays. We hope this alleviates any concerns. peace, Teri Valente Director

HEALTH & WELLNESS UPDATE You may have heard an alarming news story yesterday about the CDC confirming a bite from a kissing bug, (triatoma sanguisuga) last summer in Kent County, Delaware. These bugs can transmit a parasite which causes a disease called Chagas - which is treatable, but sometimes very serious. Chagas is not contagious. We do not recognize these insects and are in conversation with our pest control vendor to see if the services they provide for camp also kill these insects. Dear Friends of Camp Arrowhead, Due to a number of unfortunate circumstances, we have decided to cancel the May 11th Arrowhead Golf Benefit. All donor support dollars will be returned as well as all registration fees. We appreciate all who were working to make this happen and apologize for any inconvenience we caused for canceling the event. Our “Live and Local” event at Camp will happen on September 18th! Our goal is to have tickets on sale before the start of the summer. In place of the Golf Benefit, we are working on a fall event featuring disk golf, a walk through the woods, a fire on the beach, great music, and a tasting of Dogfish’s best! More information to come!

Dear All, We are writing to ask if you might help with a real threat to the fabric of our community. As you know we have had a relationship with Camp America since they first began providing international staff in the early 1970's. Volumes could be written on what this relationship has meant to all who have worked for or attended Camp. From 40+ year friendships, to the many families created as a direct result of this relationship, just have a thought about would would not be except for this program..... No matter what your political flavor is, the hard truth is the present administration wants eliminate the J-1 Visa Camp Counselor and Summer Work Travel (SWT) programs. The American Camping Association had formed a grass root campaign to not let this happen. We have hired an architect who really understands what we are about to do the work necessary to develop the campaign. We already have a perfect design for the shower house, and have begun the process for the dining hall. Meanwhile, the new storage building has been started which will allow us to clear out the Rec Hall and finalize what path that structure will take. There will be a series of meetings throughout the state this fall, which will explain the campaign plan and ask for opinions. It is critical that if you are able to attend, or, get family to attend at least one, we hear your voice. The information and energy we get from these meetings will drive our path forward. As soon as all the dates and locations are set, we will send that information. Bettylee's service will be at Camp on October 14th. All are welcome to attend.
